The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ. It is also called the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, or simply the Church. It is the society founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ, consisting of the Church Militant here on earth, the Church Suffering in Purgatory, and the Church Triumphant in heaven. The Catholic Church on earth is headed by the Bishop of Rome, the successor of St. Peter and the Vicar of Christ. The Magisterium teaches infallibly the Deposit of Faith passed down from Jesus Christ to the apostles.
